Counseling Program

Professional therapists, pre-licensed and graduate student interns work with any adult 18 and older with a desire to engage in counseling. All sessions are available at a sliding scale fee. Call St. Joseph Hospital Community Counseling for more information at (714) 771-8243.

Support Groups

The support groups below are affiliated with St. Joseph Hospital Community Counseling and are held in the Sister Elizabeth Building at 1100 W. Stewart Drive, 2nd floor, in Orange unless otherwise noted.

DEPRESSION SUPPORT for WOMEN

An ongoing support group for any woman who has been diagnosed with or struggles with depression. Learn about yourself and the hands-on tools to manage this disease as a woman in this confidential support group. Includes information and helpful strategies as well as benefits of mutual support.

WEDNESDAYS, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Facilitator: Cigdem Coyle, PsyD
Participants may join this ongoing support group on the first Tuesday of each month.
Fee: $10 per session. Advanced registration is required.

STRESS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

Techniques to incorporate relaxation into everyday life are presented and practiced, leaving you more confident, congruent, and energized. This workshop includes video presentation, material on both Western and Eastern stress management tools, self-exercise handouts, and instruction on progressive muscle relaxation.

THURSDAYS, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Fee: $20 per workshop. Advanced registration is required.

FAMILY WORKSHOP

Family relationships and support play a crucial role in overcoming challenges and making lasting positive change. Attend this ongoing workshop to learn about family dynamics and various techniques that will strengthen relationships and improve your family’s teamwork and satisfaction.

THE FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP CENTER PRESENTS: BUDGET for SUCCESS

Counseling Services in the Community

Psychological Alternative Counseling for the Elderly (PACE) Program for Seniors

This 12-week supportive counseling program is for seniors 65 and older living in Orange County. The initial session is with a licensed clinical social worker, and thereafter a trained volunteer meets with you in your home weekly, using active listening and problem-solving to facilitate movement toward personal goals. Visits are made during business hours, and sessions are confidential. Waiting list may apply.

Fee: $75 for initial assessment

PACE VOLUNTEER TRAINING: SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING
Looking for a unique volunteer opportunity? If you are a compassionate listener and would like to reap the benefits of the life experience from our older adults, PACE is for you! We invite you to take this 10-hour interactive course on aging, communication skills and working through special problems of older adults. This training will prepare participants to volunteer as PACE Volunteer Counselors. Fee $50 (Scholarships are available)

Short-Term Professional In-Home Counseling and Empowerment (SPICE) Program –
A new eight-week talk therapy program with a licensed professional or supervised second-year graduate student intern for homebound adults (ages 21+) in Orange County. 
Fee: Sliding scale fee (ranges from $100/ session and lower)

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP

A support group for those with Parkinson’s disease and family members. Includes presentations and resource referral related to Parkinson’s disease. No charge.

JOURNEY OF GRIEF

One-on-one bereavement support and resource referral with a professional counselor for adults who have experienced any type of loss.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
