The St. Joseph Hospital Heart and Vascular Center provides complete and comprehensive care to those suffering with cardiac and or vascular disease. These services include a broad spectrum of state of the art diagnostic technologies; treatment facilitated by evidence-based medicine, leading edge therapies and highly trained specialists; education by experienced nurses; and support services ranging from risk factor identification and screening to rehabilitation and heart failure clinic support. As the first hospital in Orange County to provide cardiac care, St. Joseph Hospital continues to lead the community by providing services to both the adult and pediatric patient.
St. Joseph Hospital's commitment to healthiest communities fueled the expansion of services to include not only treating those with coronary artery disease but to the care of patients with arrhythmias, valve disease, congenital heart defects, vascular disease and aneurysms. St. Joseph Hospital is the only facility in Orange County that has advanced expertise to care for the adult with a congenital heart defect.
In 2007, 2008 and 2009, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons rated St. Joseph Hospital in the nation's top 15 percent for Adult Cardiac Surgery. This top-tier, three-star rating reflects outstanding outcomes in key areas such as complication and mortality rates, and adherence to evidence-based care throughout the patient's stay. In addition, the St. Joseph Hospital open-heart surgery program has been recognized as a best practice by the California Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). The Vascular Institute and the Women's Heart Center have both received recognition as centers of excellence and the director for the Heart and Vascular Center is the 2007 recipient of the GE Healthcare Award for Excellence.
