St. Joseph Hospital to Feature New Hybrid OR
St. Joseph Hospital will soon be the first hospital in Orange County to unveil a Hybrid Operating Room (OR), creating the most technologically advanced operating environment for physicians to provide the most current evidence-based cardiovascular care.
With this introduction, St. Joseph Hospital remains at the forefront of medical advancements, pairing the latest technology with superior clinical expertise. The new OR will create the optimal setting for cardiologists and surgeons to work synergistically, while directly benefiting patient care.
Integrated technology enabling integrated care
The Hybrid OR will allow surgeons and cardiologists to transition seamlessly from invasive to open surgical procedures (when necessary), thereby minimizing the risk to patients and reducing the overall time in the hospital.
The OR will incorporate a robotic state-of-the-art imaging system called the Artis Zeego, which combines with the requirements of surgery, anesthesiology and invasive cardiology to provide excellent imaging quality. The system has a virtually limitless positioning ratio, performs real-time 3D image reconstruction and has added functional space for collaboration among physicians and surgeons from multiple disciplines.
Mixing expertise and technology to treat Congenital Heart Disease
The introduction of the Hybrid OR will also facilitate the development of the St. Joseph Hospital Heart and Vascular Center’s Congenital Heart Disease program, addressing a significant but underserved patient population in Orange County and the surrounding communities. St. Joseph Hospital is the only facility south of Los Angeles with both the clinical expertise and technological equipment necessary to perform these procedures, making it a tertiary referral center for Southern California.
Leading-edge technology delivering leading-edge results
For patients, the new Hybrid OR will result in:
- More minimally invasive procedures
- Fewer surgical complications
- Shorter hospital stays
- Faster recovery time
- Improved patient outcomes
- Treatment for patients who otherwise would not have an option
Many applications, one synergistic team
The hybrid OR will be utilized for a variety of cardiac and vascular procedures including:
- Minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures
- Percutaneous (catheter-based) heart valve replacement and repair
- Percutaneous (catheter-based) vascular procedures
- Combined open and endovascular procedures
- Treatment of cardiac arrhythmias
- Abdominal-aortic-aneurysm repairs
- Peripheral angioplasties
The St. Joseph Hospital Heart and Vascular Center’s new hybrid OR is expected to be operational in spring 2010.
