Carotid Artery Stenosis (narrowing of the carotid artery) Although angioplasty and stenting for carotid artery stenosis opens and keeps the blood flowing, it does not stop plaque from building up. Patients are encouraged to consider changes in their lifestyle to decrease the risk factors contributing to atherosclerosis and to have follow-up by their primary physicians, neurologist and Vascular Institute physician if symptoms reoccur. This includes diet control, regular exercise, maintaining ideal body weight, smoking cessation and recommendations to control cholesterol levels and/or blood sugar levels for diabetic patients.
Cerebral Artery Aneurysm Patients will have follow-up cerebral angiograms at six months and 1-year post-embolization and are followed by their neurosurgeon/neurologist/primary care physician for any changes in neurological status.

Patients are encouraged to consider lifestyle changes to decrease the risk factors contributing to atherosclerosis and to have follow-up by their primary physicians and /or Vascular Institute physician if symptoms reoccur. This includes diet control, regular exercise, maintaining ideal body weight, smoking cessation and recommendations to control cholesterol levels and/or blood sugar levels for diabetic patients.
Stroke
St. Joseph Hospital follows the expertise for stroke treatment and timely intervention as set by the American Heart Association (AHA)/ American Stroke Association’s (ASA) “Get with the Guidelines” and Brain Attack Coalition. The goal is to have early recognition of symptoms and detection of stroke by care givers and healthcare workers to enable timely treatment by either thrombolytic or mechanical extraction methods. We work in collaboration with the Emergency Department, Respiratory Therapy, CT department, Intensive Care staff, Physical Therapy/Rehabilitation and Neurology physicians and the Stroke Program coordinator to provide timely quality care in the treatment and rehabilitation of our stroke patients.
Uterine Fibroid (Artery) Embolization (UFE/UAE) On average about 80-85 percent of women have almost total or total relief of pain and other symptoms caused by uterine fibroids. Up to one percent of women have injury to the uterus from the procedure, possible resulting in the necessity of a hysterectomy. Some women experience menopause after the procedure. Results about getting pregnant after the procedure are inconclusive at this time.
