Hospice is a philosophy of care based on the concept that patients with life-limiting illnesses should receive assistance in achieving the highest possible quality of life within their disease process. Hospice embraces a family-centered approach to the physical, emotional and spiritual care of patients and their families.
St. Joseph Hospital has an in-house Hospice Service for patients and families who have decided to stop acute treatment; patients who need a few days to get ready for their next stay, whether at home or at another facility, and patients who meet criteria for hospice care.
The new service is an extension of St. Joseph Hospice, under the medical direction of Michael Malouf, MD. Patients will be discharged from inpatient care and have a full readmission to Hospice. Once the patient leaves the hospital, he or she will continue to be followed by St. Joseph Hospice. The program will allow the patient and family time to bridge to the next phase of the patient’s life.
Our team of highly trained professionals is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and symptom management in an atmosphere of compassion and dignity. Patients and their caregivers are encouraged to be involved in the plan of care. Together we will work to ensure that patients are comfortable, able to enjoy every day, and live with dignity and respect.
