Kidney Stones and Extacorporeal Shock Wave Lithiotripsy (ESWL)
Most kidney stones are crystal-like masses of calcium oxalate (a hard salt) varying in size from a grain of sand to nearly an inch in diameter. Kidney stones build up gradually over time. They can be found anywhere in the urinary tract.
Stones that grow too large to pass out of the body naturally can obstruct normal urine flow and cause sudden and severe pain. Other symptoms accompanying kidney stones may include blood in the urine, burning and pain during urination, infection and nausea. Permanent relief can only come by removing the kidney stone.
Lithotripsy
Lithotripsy comes from the Greek word meaning “stone fragmentation.” Our lithotripsy therapy system, Seimens Lithostar Modularis, which is based on the patented, electromagnetic shock wave system, Cplus technology, generates shock wave impulses that disintegrate the kidney stone into tiny particles. The stone can then be passed naturally out of the urinary system.
The Modularis Lithotripter is the most advanced system available for “non-surgical” removal of kidney stones. This state-of-the-art minimally invasive technology provides maximum comfort, efficient treatment with reduced pain, a higher degree of stone disintegration and fewer follow-up treatments.
