Orthopedic Services

St. Joseph Hospital has been one of Orange County's leaders in orthopedic services for more than 30 years. Orthopedic surgeons on staff at St. Joseph Hospital performed the county's first artificial hip, total knee and elbow replacement surgeries. Today, our specially trained joint replacement specialists combine the latest technology with a unique, comprehensive, patient-centered approach to quality care. This is why St. Joseph Hospital's Orthopedic Program has achieved the following national recognition:

In 2011, St. Joseph Hospital was named among the top 60 hospitals in the nation for its outstanding orthopedic program by Becker's Hospital Review. According to Becker's St. Joseph Hospital's Orthopedic Program exhibits excellence in orthopedics, quality of service, outstanding local and national reputation and high volume of orthopedic cases.

In 2009 - as well as in 2008 and 2007 -  St. Joseph Hospital was ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for orthopedic care by U.S.News and World Report.

Orthopedics
St. Joseph Hospital is committed to excellence in providing care and services for both patients and their families. More than a decade ago, we created a one-of-a-kind preoperative education program to enable patients to be at ease with their procedures and to allow families to provide beneficial support for their loved ones. A registered nurse explains what patients should expect before surgery, during the procedure and in recovery. A physical therapist emphasizes the importance of postoperative therapy to improve function and restore strength. Our staff believes that patients who are prepared before surgery are more independent afterward. A specialized case management nurse coordinates postoperative care, to ensure patients receive the attention they need.

In addition to the advantages of new, state-of-the-art operating rooms, orthopedic patients benefit from a new nursing unit exclusively for orthopedic patients that opened in 2007. This healing environment features private rooms, couch beds for family members' overnight stays, TV with on-demand movies and Internet, e-mail and wireless communication access, play areas for visiting children and a "Healing Garden" for meditation and sunshine just outside the unit. Equipped with a great depth of orthopedic knowledge and the most advanced facilities, 
St. Joseph Hospital truly cares for each patient's body, mind and spirit.
