Specially trained physical and occupational therapists on staff at St. Joseph Hospital guide patients through muscle-strengthening and range-of-motion exercises to help restore function, gain strength, and manage pain. Therapists also focus on reducing stress, minimizing joint strain, and conserving energy.
Patients recovering from orthopedic surgery at St. Joseph Hospital receive physical therapy twice a day. Our therapists teach patients and their family members the safest and easiest way to get in and out of bed, sit and rise from a chair or toilet seat, and how to use a front-wheel walker on both level surfaces and steps.
Our physical therapists will monitor any weight-bearing restrictions and other limitations. You will also learn therapeutic exercises that will help you build strength and increase the range of motion in your joint.
Our occupational therapists will help you learn how to use special adaptive equipment that can enable you to bathe and dress on your own more easily.
