Important Milestones

At The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment at St. Joseph Hospital, you'll receive the most advanced cancer care available. Our cutting-edge facility and cancer programs allow our specially trained physicians  to perform research and discover new treatments and therapies for cancer.

  • The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment has received grants from the National Institutes of Health for its umbilical cord blood bank and umbilical cord blood transplant programs.
  • The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment is a National Marrow Donor Program-approved site.
  • St. Joseph Hospital was the first hospital in Orange County to offer a radiation program accredited by the American College of Radiology.
  • The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment is the only facility in Orange County with a completely integrated system for radiation therapy.
  • More than a decade ago, St. Joseph Hospital performed the first outpatient bone marrow transplant in Orange County. Today, the hospital continues to be one of only a few programs in the county to serve as a National Bone Marrow Donor Program Collection Center and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection Center.
  • The Melanoma Program at St. Joseph Hospital has participated in the Sunbelt Melanoma Trial, a multi-center trial that examines the usefulness of treatment with interferon alfa-2b for patients whose melanoma has spread into the lymph nodes. In addition, St. Joseph Hospital physicians have developed new clinical trials that may offer medical breakthroughs in treating skin cancer.
  • The Melanoma Program at St. Joseph Hospital conducts national clinical trials to develop advanced melanoma therapies. Among other recent studies, the Melanoma Program partnered with the University of California, San Francisco, in the National Melanoma Sentinel Lymph Node Data Acquisition Project to collect information on patients who have had sentinel lymph node dissections.
