Patient and Family Resources

A number of web sites provide comprehensive information where you can learn more about breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment. Following are some online resources that our patients and their families have found particularly helpful.

AANCART
The Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training (AANCART) is a cooperative agreement between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the University of California, Davis. It is the first-ever national cancer awareness research and training infrastructure intended to address Asian American concerns. 

The American Cancer Society (ACS)
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is committed to fighting cancer through balanced programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy and rehabilitation. Through their comprehensive web site, patients and their families can access detailed cancer information, the latest cancer news and statistics, programs to get involved, and links to local chapters for support and advocacy.

Latino Health Access
Latino Health Access (LHA) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1993. The center was created to assist with the multiple health needs of Latinos in Orange County.

National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN)
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), an alliance of 19 of the world's leading cancer centers, is an authoritative source of information to help patients and health professionals make informed decisions about cancer care. The NCCN develops, updates and disseminates a complete library of clinical practice guidelines. These guidelines are the standard for clinical policy in oncology.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)
The National Cancer Institute is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is the federal government's principal agency for cancer research and training. The NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination and other programs related to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Online assistance is available through the LiveHelp link on the NCI's web site.

OCAPICA
The Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) is dedicated to enhancing the health, and social and economic well-being of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Orange County, California.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation

The Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation is dedicated to preventing cancer, improving quality of life, and saving lives through cancer education, research, advocacy and services in the Vietnamese community.

WINCART
Weaving an Islander Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training (WINCART) is dedicated to reducing disparities in cancer incidence and mortality among Pacific Islanders in Southern California.

Breast Cancer Network of Strength
(formerly Y-Me)
The mission of the Breast Cancer Network of Strength is to provide information, empowerment and peer support to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. The Breast Cancer Network of Strength sponsors the only hotline in the United States staffed by trained peer counselors who are breast cancer survivors. This resource for breast cancer information and support is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-221-2141 or 1-800-986-9505 (Spanish). Interpreters are available in 150 languages.

The Breast Cancer Network of Strength website offers breast cancer information, resources and support for patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers and medical professionals. Guests can submit questions concerning breast health and/or breast cancer, which are answered by breast cancer survivors within 48 hours. The site is available in English and Spanish.

YWCA
