Approximately 47,500 Americans will be diagnosed with oral, head and neck cancers during 2008. As a leading treatment center for these conditions, the St. Joseph Hospital Head and Neck Program is proud to offer highly skilled care for patients with benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck region including the sinuses, oral cavity, larynx (voice box), salivary gland, swallowing passages and thyroid. Our services include all phases of care — from screening and early detection to treatment and rehabilitation.
The Head and Neck Program is spearheaded by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals who are dedicated to meeting the complex needs of patients with head and neck tumors. This team focuses on providing patients with the most effective treatments available, while helping them preserve their quality of life.
The Head and Neck Program also includes the services of a dedicated Nurse Navigator who can ease the burden of a cancer diagnosis and treatment by:
- Enhancing both the quality and continuity of care by coordinating patient care services with other health care providers including: surgeons, medical oncologists,radiation oncologists, primary care providers, pharmacists, dietitians and social workers
- Educating patients regarding his/her diagnosis and treatment options
- Facilitate the decision-making process by patients and their families
- Ensuring continuity of care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings
