The Melanoma Program at St. Joseph Hospital offers Orange County's first and only Digital Skin Imaging System.
This state-of-the-art computerized system creates baseline digital photographs of the entire surface of your skin. The Melanoma Program experts use these photos to skillfully track changes in the appearance of moles over time. Digital Skin Imaging also aids in skin self-examination, which should be performed monthly at home. Patients receive a CD of these images to use at home in order to track any possible changes in the mole size, color or texture. A copy of the images is sent to the patient's dermatologist.
Digital skin imaging may be recommended for patients with the following risk factors:
- More than 50 moles
- Previous melanomas
- Giant congenital melanocytic nevi
- Family history of malignant melanoma
- Atypical mole syndrome / Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome
