Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

By the age of 60, one in three women in the U.S. has had a hysterectomy, a surgery to remove the uterus. Traditionally, the surgery has involved a large incision to open the abdomen. Now, many women are exercising their option to find relief through less invasive hysterectomy procedures.

One such procedure performed by St. Joseph Hospital physicians is Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH), requiring just three small “band aid incisions.”  When compared to the more commonly used method of cutting open the abdomen, TLH is associated with less pain, reduced blood loss, less scarring, less time in surgery and a shorter hospital stay, and faster return to normal activities.

Women having TLH have been so pleased with their relief and results that they often say they wished they'd had the procedure sooner. If you suffer from a condition that may require a hysterectomy, talk to your doctor about your options. If you need a referral to a St. Joseph Hospital gynecologist, please visit Find a Doctor or call (714) 633-DOCS (3627). You will find physicians who are experts in performing the TLH procedure by clicking here.
