St. Joseph Hospital Event Raises $420,000 for New Emergency Care Center
St. Joseph Hospital's annual fundraising gala, Celebration 2013, made hospital history by raising more than $420,000 for the hospital's new Emergency Care Center. More than 400 people gathered at the Balboa Bay Resort, to enjoy an evening of fine dining, silent and live auctions, raise the paddle opportunity, wine wall and the historic musical talents of Brian Wilson Co-Founder of The Beach Boys with Al Jardine and David Marks.
"We are thrilled by the tremendous success of this year's Celebration, "said Linda Pierog, DNP, Celebration 2013 co-chair. "The generosity of our sponsors and underwriters brought the event to a new level and enabled us to provide more support to the hospital than ever before."
Proceeds from Celebration 2013 support a $3.5 million effort for the Emergency Care Center: Preparing for the Future, part of the hospital's $100 million Comprehensive Campaign – Investing in a Healthy Tomorrow. "This new concept in emergency care will help us treat more patients, more quickly yet maintain the outstanding quality of care that St. Joseph Hospital is known for," said James Pierog, MD, emergency care physician and celebration co-chair. "The community's support will guarantee the residents of Orange County and the patients of St. Joseph Hospital, the best healthcare available when they need it, especially in an emergency."
St. Joseph Hospital's Celebration 2013 also marks the annual presentation of the Spirit of St. Joseph Award, which honors donors who embody the spirit of St. Joseph in their generous works. This year the award was presented to Lee & Associates Principal Jim Hawkins and his wife Betsy Hawkins. The Hawkins family has been a part of St. Joseph Hospital starting with Jim's father who was chief of staff for more than 30 years. Beginning with Jim's appointment to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2001, both he and Betsy have exemplified the spirit of St. Joseph through their community outreach, leadership and charitable support.
