'THE RON AND MARSHA MOELLER CELEBRATION PRESENTED BY MASIMO' GALA RAISES $358,000 FOR THE ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL NURSING EXCELLENCE PROGRAM
St. Joseph Hospital's annual fundraising gala, Celebration 2014, netted $358,000 for the St. Joseph Hospital Nursing Excellence Program. More than 500 guests, including community supporters, local business leaders, physicians, nurses and the 2014 co-chairs Dr. Raymond and Colleen Casciari and Drs. Nadia Elihu and David Karlin, gathered at the Marriott Newport Beach to enjoy an evening of fine dining, silent and live auctions, raise the paddle, opportunity drawing, wine wall and musical talents of Grammy-nominated artist Jewel.
"Jewel's voice was like an angel," said Nadia Elihu, MD, event co-chair. Steven C. Moreau, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Hospital shared, "Jewel was beyond my expectation!"
Proceeds from Celebration 2014 support the Nursing Excellence Program, part of the hospital's $100 million Comprehensive Campaign – Investing In A Healthy Tomorrow. The Nursing Excellence Program fosters a culture of continuous learning and professional development through education, research and innovation. "Nursing has undergone tremendous transformation during the past decade," said Moreau. "Today's registered nurse is a critical thinker and decision maker, a highly skilled and educated clinician who must continually assess the condition of patients to provide the right care, at the right time, in the right setting."
St. Joseph Hospital nurses rank among the best in the nation and with the support of this year's Celebration, they will remain at the top of their profession: well educated, highly skilled and ready to provided absolute care to our community.
St. Joseph Hospital's Celebration 2014 also marks the annual presentation of the Spirit of St. Joseph Award, which honors donors who embody the spirit of St. Joseph in their generous works. This year the award was presented to Dr. Raymond and Colleen Casciari and Shirley J. Moretti. The Casciari family has been a part of St. Joseph Hospital since Dr. Casciari joined the hospital medical staff in 1978. During his 30+ year career here, the Casciaris have been generous supporters of the hospital have and exemplified the Spirit of St. Joseph in their ongoing service St. Joseph Hospital. Shirley J. Moretti was awarded this honor for her strong commitment to St. Joseph Hospital and to helping others. Like St. Joseph, Shirley is a protector and benefactor to the many people she encounters and is a humble and quiet leader, supporter and friend.
