Burlew Medical Library and Health Resource Center
Your health information needs may be served by both the Health Resource Center and Burlew Medical Library. The Health Resource Center is a small consumer health library located near the hospital’s main lobby area. It offers take-away consumer health education pamphlets, a small reference collection of medical books, consumer health databases, computers/printers and popular consumer health magazines.
More importantly, the Health Resource Center has its own website, http://www.sjhhealthresourcecenter.org. This website is available to the public from any location, although a few resources are marked with a “lock” symbol and can only be used while at the hospital. This dedicated consumer health website offers online access to a wide array of health topics written at the consumer level. The resources selected are authoritative, accurate and up to date. You can find out how to evaluate health information on the internet, find information on your particular health concern, watch interactive health tutorials, take health assessment quizzes and much more. Many materials are available in Spanish and other languages. The Health Resource Center is primarily self-service but may be staffed by trained volunteers during some hours.
If you or your family members are not able to find answers to your health questions through the Health Resource Center, Burlew Medical Library may be able to help you. The library is open from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays only and can be reached at extension 714-771-8291. Burlew Medical Library has a collection of more than 6,000 medical books, 600 medical journals and an extensive website featuring medical databases, online medical journals/books and authoritative web links. Burlew Medical Library may be able to research the medical literature for you and provide more extensive medical information. Some charges may apply.
