In addition to providing clinical expertise, we are committed to the comfort of our bariatric patients, providing a dedicated bariatric unit that includes the following:
In keeping with our longstanding tradition, we incorporate our core values of dignity, service, excellence, and justice in all that we do at St. Joseph Hospital.
Our three surgeons at St. Joseph Hospital have performed over 5,000 weight loss surgery procedures. Our team utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to successful long-term weight loss using the expertise of a team that consists of the following professionals:
Typically, diet, exercise, and behavior modification result in only a 10% long-term weight loss--they are simply are not a long-term cure for morbid obesity. Bariatric surgery is the only proven long-term method of weight loss for individuals 100+ pounds overweight.
It, however, is important to remember that surgical weight loss is a tool and not a permanent cure. To be truly successful, long-term weight loss requires lifestyle change in addition to surgery. The most successful individuals we have seen incorporate healthy eating habits and consistent exercise into their new healthy lifestyle.
Almost 100% of our bariatric surgery procedures are performed using a minimally invasive laparoscopic technique, which involves making several small openings in the skin. Surgeons insert surgical instruments through the openings, as well as a small camera to visualize the surgical area. These smaller incisions offer several benefits:
The adjustable gastric banding procedure and sleeve gastrectomy are primarily restrictive procedures that are performed using the minimally invasive laparoscopic technique. The adjustable gastric band restricts the amount of food the stomach can hold by placing an inflatable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach.
The staff at the St. Joseph Hospital Bariatric Surgery Program is here to answer all of your questions and to determine whether this type of weight loss surgery is right for you.
