A Balanced Diet

A nutritionally balanced diet should be planned to make sure you obtain adequate amounts of calories, protein, minerals and vitamins. This can be achieved by consuming a variety of foods from each of the four food groups listed below.

  • Milk

    Pudding

  • Meat

    Servings:
    2

    Foods:
    Meat
    Fish
    Poultry
    Eggs
    Cheese
    Dried Beans
    Soy products

  • Fruit - Vegetable

    Servings:
    4

    Foods:
    Dark, leafy green or orange vegetables are
    recommended 3 or 4 times per week for Vitamin A.
    Citrus fruits are recommended daily for Vitamin C.

  • Grain

    Servings:
    4

    Bread
    Cereal
    Pasta
    Rice
    Crackers

If a medical condition such as diabetes, or high blood pressure required you to be on a special diet before surgery, you should continue to follow those guidelines after surgery.
