Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a test used to help diagnose lung problems. A thin, flexible tube is used and allows the doctor to look at your breathing passages.
Preparation
- Follow your doctor's instructions carefully
- No food or drink 6 to 12 hours before the test
- Arrange for an adult to drive you home after the test
Procedure
- You will lie on your back for the procedure
- You will be given a breathing treatment prior to the actual test
- You will be given mediations through the intravenous (IV) line to make you drowsy
- In addition, your nose and throat will be numbed with a special spray
- Your doctor will insert the tube into your nose which might cause a gagging sensation
- Your airway will remain open with the tube in place, but you won't be able to talk
- The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.
