Uterine Artery Embolization Post-procedure Information
If patients have questions or concerns after being discharged, they are asked to call Interventional Radiology at 714-771 8000 ext. 17865.
Patients should immediately report any of the following symptoms to their physician or call Interventional Radiology:
- Fever over 101 degrees by mouth.
- Persistent nausea, vomiting, cramping or pain not relieved by medication.
- Severe pain or tenderness to groin.
- Bleeding from puncture site.
- Severe vaginal bleeding.
Fluids and diet
- Resume your normal diet, unless nauseated.
- If nauseated start with clear liquids, broth, crackers or soup.
- Drink plenty of fluids over the next 24 hours.
Activity
- No heavy lifting for 48 hours.
- No vigorous play or straining for 48 hours.
- No sexual intercourse, no tampons, no douching, no hot tubs for 2 weeks.
- Rest for the first few days.
- No work for 5 days.
Prescriptions
- Take medication as prescribed.
- Resume your normal medications.
Wound Care
- You make shower when you get home; however, please do not take a bath
- You may take off your bandage when you get home
Follow-up appointment
- Please make an appointment for ultrasound within three-six months.
- Schedule an appointment with your OB-GYN within one month.
