Treatment

Once your doctor determines the cause of the hematuria treatment may consist of:

  • Antibiotics (for urinary tract infections)
  • Medications to shrink an enlarged prostate
  • Shock treatment (lithotripsy) to break up a bladder or kidney stone
  • Cystoscopy/Ureteroscopy with biopsy for removal of tissue and suspicious lesions for diagnosis and to discern if any additional treatments are warranted

If a serious underlying condition is causing the hematuria, additional testing and treatment will be directed by a urologist.
