Non-Surgical Treatment Non-surgical treatment may involve the following oral medications: Medications called Alpha 1-blockers relax the muscles of the bladder and prostate allowing for easier urination. Alpha 1-blockers include: doxazosin, prazosin, tamsulosin, terazosin and alfuzosin, silodosin. Finasteride and dutasteride act to decrease the levels of hormones produced by the prostate, reduce the size of the prostate gland and increase urine flow rate. Chronic prostatitis, which is the inflammation of the prostate, may accompany BPH. Antibiotics combined with anti-infammatory agents may be prescribed to treat the inflammation.
