Cancer Genetics
Approximately 5 to 10 percent of gynecologic cancers (ovarian and uterine) are hereditary. Anyone concerned about a personal and/or family history of gynecologic cancer can benefit from a hereditary cancer risk evaluation, especially individuals with a personal and/or family history of:
- Breast, ovarian, uterine, or colorectal cancer (particularly anyone diagnosed before age 50)
- Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry
- Individuals who have tested positive for a BRCA1, BRCA2, or Lynch syndrome (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2 genes) mutation
