Digital Skin Imaging

As the only hospital in Orange County to offer an advanced Digital Skin Imaging (DSI) system, the medical experts at the Melanoma Program at St. Joseph Hospital are leaders in the prevention and early detection of melanoma.

Early Detection Means Potential Cure

Even the slightest changes in moles could signal the early stages of skin cancer. Digital Skin Imaging uses digital photography and computer software to create images of the entire surface of your skin. Along with skin self-examination, DSI helps you and your doctor track changes in the appearance of moles over time.

Digital Skin Imaging helps identify melanoma in its earliest stages, when it has the highest probability of cure. It also helps reduce the number and frequency of biopsies needed to detect skin cancer. Find out today if your physician recommends DSI for you.

How it Works

Our caring experts help put you at ease during your session by answering all of your questions. Then, our clinical photographer takes up to 200 body images while you stand in front of a neutral background. The entire session takes 30 to 60 minutes. The photographer selects 30 of the most clinically useful images. Both you and your doctor are provided with a high quality digital record on CD. Your doctor also receives a full set of prints.

Who Benefits from Digital Skin Imaging?

Individuals who have:

  • 50 or more moles
  • Multiple atypical or abnormal moles
  • Previous melanoma
  • Strong family history of melanoma
  • Giant brown or black moles present at or within one year of birth

Special Pricing

Melanoma may be cured if detected early. The Melanoma Program offers a $275 cash pay Digital Skin Imaging for those who have one or more of the above risk factors. DSI is not covered by many insurance plans.

If your physician recommends DSI for you, please call 714-734-6277 to schedule your session today.
