Along with your insurance cards, you may bring a few personal belongings to have during your hospital stay. These items may include sleep wear, a robe, slippers, toiletries, a toothbrush and a brush or comb. If you wear glasses or dentures, you’ll need those, too. (Please be sure to bring their protective containers.) It is helpful to mark your personal belongings with your name in the event they are misplaced. While the staff will take every reasonable precaution with your personal belongings, the hospital cannot be responsible for the breakage or loss of such articles.
Please leave the following at home: large sums of money, credit cards and jewelry. If you choose to bring any of these items, we request that they be secured in the hospital’s safe. St. Joseph Hospital is not responsible for personal items, or for the loss of money or other valuables retained in patient rooms.
Also be aware that medications from home could interfere with any medications or prescriptions your physician orders during your hospitalization. Leave all medications (including Aspirin) at home unless otherwise instructed by your physician. Any medication prescribed for you will be supplied by the hospital pharmacy. Please bring a list of your medications with you to the hospital.
If you have an Advance Healthcare Directive, bring a copy of it with you on the day of admission. If you are unable to bring a copy, or staff can assist you in completing an Interim Directive.
