All medications you take while in the hospital are prescribed by your physician, dispensed by the hospital pharmacy and administered by a nurse. You are not permitted to administer your own medication unless approved by your physician. If this is the case, the medication supplies you brought in must be stored in their original, labeled containers and checked by the pharmacist before the drug can be administered. You will not be permitted to keep personal medication at your bedside (with certain exceptions such as inhalers and with your physician’s approval). If you have questions about your medication, our pharmacists are available to speak with you. Please contact your nurse to contact your pharmacist.
Prescriptions given to you upon discharge may be filled at the pharmacy in the St. Joseph Hospital Outpatient Pavilion (south of the main hospital at 1140 W. La Veta Ave.) during business hours. There are other pharmacies in the area that are open 24 hours daily.
