Patients & Visitors Guide

Hospitals are a place for treatment, rest and recovery. Patients need a quiet, healing environment to recover.  Please observe the following:

  • All visitors must check in with the Security Officer at the Visitors' Desk and receive a Visitor's Pass.
  • A maximum of two visitors (three in a private room) may be with the patient at anyone time.
  • The visitor lounges or the hospital lobby are to be used by visitors while waiting to see a patient.
  • Visitation is between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.  Visits may be arranged at other times, but should be discussed in advance with the patient's caregiver.
  • For health reasons, it is recommended that children under two years of age remain at home unless there are special circumstances. Please discuss these circumstances with your nurse.
  • Children of any age cannot be left unattended on the campus and must be supervised by an adult other than the patient.
  • Only sibling child visitations will be permitted in the Obstetric areas. All visitors should be free of communicable diseases. Any sibling with illness, symptoms or communicable disease exposures will not be permitted to visit.
  • Visitors coming to the Intensive Care and Critical Care units should obtain prior approval by phone from the waiting room or main lobby.

Parking
Parking is located in the parking structure on the hospital campus and can be accessed from West Stewart Drive.  Because parking is limited, we encourage you to have a relative or friend drive you to the hospital. If you must leave your car overnight, please tell the admitting counselor when you arrive so our security officers can be advised.

Valet Parking
St. Joseph Hospital provides Valet Parking Services for patients, visitors, and physicians. The optional valet program is located at the patient drop-off area on Stewart Drive. There is a flat-rate charge for this service.

The hospital also provides a Tram Service for those who do not wish to participate in the Valet program.  The Tram Service is most beneficial for those who experience difficulty walking from the parking structure to the hospital, or to and from outpatient buildings on campus. Contact the Security Services Department at (714) 771-8050 for details.

Safety

To ensure your safety and well being, the hospital continually monitors and tests a wide range of security and safety measures. You may hear overhead announcements for drills and other messages. Be assured that your nurse will monitor these announcements and inform you of any pertinent information.
