The 'Celebration 2011' black tie gala for St. Joseph Hospital raised over $200,000 to benefit the 'Women's Service Initiative'-- which includes the creation of a new Center for Breast Imaging and Diagnosis and Mother Baby Unit. More than 630 guests, including community supporters, local business leaders, physicians, and staff, attended St. Joseph Hospital's "Celebration 2011" event at the Hilton Anaheim on Saturday, October 22.
"What a beautiful evening! A special thanks to our supporters who, in these difficult financial times, helped us to surpass our goals for the event", shared Jean Vivrette, Celebration Co-Chair. "The women of our community will thank everyone for many years to come."
The St. Joseph Hospital Celebration event started off with a silent auction, reception and opportunity drawing featuring travel packages, electronics, sporting packages, items created by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and more. In addition, new mother, Sarah Saia, shared her personal story prior to the Raise the Paddle opportunity for new bassinets in the Mother Baby Unit.
Also, guests had the opportunity to bid on exciting live auction items including a trip to Whistler, Canada. This year, the Spirit of St. Joseph Award was presented to Dr. James and Linda Pierog and Bill and Pat Podlich. Dinner was accompanied by live entertainment, provided by Dwight Kennedy Music. After the program, guests enjoyed the 'Cocoa Lounge', a special area with plush couches, a cocktail and chocolate station, music and a fifty pound custom-made exquisite chocolate dress, designed by Master Chocolatier Max MacConaghay of Saint Jacques Chocolat in La Jolla.
"It was an amazing evening that brought so many of our community members, physicians, nurses, hospital staff and Sisters together to celebrate the hospital," said Lizanne Monahan, event co-chair.
The new Center for Breast Imaging and Diagnosis has been designed to give busy women peace of mind and the confidence, no matter what the need-- from prevention, early detection and diagnostic services through treatment and survivorship.
In addition, when completed, the Mother Baby Unit will offer 60 spacious rooms to provide the privacy for families to bond and create those memorable first moments. A Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located on the same floor will keep babies that require special care close to mom. A state-of-the-art newborn transitional care unit will complete the space.
Steven C. Moreau, President and CEO, also publicly announced St. Joseph Hospital's $100 million "Investing in a Healthy Tomorrow" Comprehensive Campaign, which includes the completion of the Center for Breast Imaging and Diagnosis and the expansion of private patient rooms on our Mother-Baby Unit. Mr. Moreau shared that the priorities for the remaining $26 million to be raised also include:
- Creating secure electronic medical records that enhance communication between doctor and patient.
- Enhancing the Heart and Vascular Center to provide leading edge care for patients with congenital and other heart and vascular diseases.
- Expanding our Surgical Robotic program to increase access to this minimally invasive surgical technique.
- Supporting advanced nurse education and training.
- Continuation of our commitment to serving the poor through our new Care for the Poor Endowment.
Past support from the Celebration, helped to fund the hospital's Patient Care Center and The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment.
