Community Education Classes
Our "Weight Loss Surgery: Is It Right for You?" class is offered twice a month, on Tuesday evenings. This class features one of our bariatric surgeons and is an informational session on the disease of morbid obesity, treatments available- including surgical and non-surgical options, and the risks and benefits of surgery. All patients must attend this class prior to making an appointment for a surgical evaluation and consultation. Please call (714) 771-8298 for class dates and times and registration.

Support Groups
Weight loss surgery patients who attend support groups have greater long-term success in keeping the weight off.  We offer our St. Joseph Hospital, Bariatric Care Center patients support groups that meet twice a month. Please call (714) 771-8298 for more information.

Dietitian Education
St. Joseph Hospital surgical weight loss patients are provided with individual dietary consultations as well as group classes to assist with weight loss needs for long-term success.  Preoperatively, the Program Dietitian also teaches the Behavior Modification class to promote lifestyle change and readiness for surgery.  Additional dietary information is provided during support groups.  Please call (714) 771-8000 x12972 for further information.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Guided Imagery
Guided Imagery is a well-recognized intervention aimed at easing stress and promoting a sense of peace and tranquility in one's life.  Our weight loss surgery bariatric patients at St. Joseph Hospital are educated in guided imagery and are offered complimentary guided imagery sessions during their hospitalization.  Our guided imagery specialist is also available as an outpatient service.  For more information, please contact the Wellness Center in the Pavilion at (714) 771-8000 x 17771.
