2019 Women’s Choice Award® Names St. Joseph Hospital of Orange One of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience

Orange, Calif. (May 1, 2019) – St. Joseph Hospital has earned the 2019 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience for the third consecutive year. The hospital is one of 100 award recipients representing hospitals of similar size that have met the highest standards for patient experience in the nation.

The Women’s Choice Award is the only evidence-based designation that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and research focusing on what drives the hospital experience for women versus men.

This award is in addition to the accolades bestowed upon the hospital by Women's Choice earlier in the year. In January, St. Joseph Hospital was named one of America's Best Hospitals for bariatric surgery, cancer care, obstetrics, breast centers and stroke centers.

“We are proud to once again be recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience,” said Jeremy S. Zoch, PhD, MHA, FACHE, the hospital’s chief executive. “This award, in combination with the five service line-focused awards received in January, celebrates our focus on providing exceptional care while also creating an extraordinary experience for each individual we serve.”

A detailed methodology is used to select the Women’s Choice Award’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience. Specific survey results from Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) in accordance with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences are used for the evaluation.

For 2019, the most important considerations were effective communication with nurses and doctors, responsiveness to requests for help, providing patient recovery information, explanation about medications before being administered, bathroom and room cleanliness, peacefulness of a room at night as well as patient recommendation ratings.

“St. Joseph Hospital was awarded because it is one of the best at treating patients the way patients want to be treated,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Hospital choice is a critical decision, particularly for women, who make more than 80% of all healthcare decisions.”
