Award marks third consecutive top safety rating for the hospital
Orange, Calif. (May 20, 2019) — The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving
consumer health care quality and safety, has awarded St. Joseph Hospital
an “A” rating in its Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grades. The
Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals based on their
performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among
patients in their care. The Leapfrog Group’s “A” rating,
awarded to St. Joseph Hospital for its efforts in protecting patients
from harm and maintaining the highest safety standards, is the third consecutive
“A” rating for the medical center.
“The Leapfrog Group has once again recognized St. Joseph Hospital
for our commitment to the utmost in care and safety for our patients,”
said Jeremy S. Zoch, PhD, MHA, FACHE, chief executive of St. Joseph Hospital.
“It is a well-deserved honor for our physicians and staff who dedicate
themselves to putting patient safety and quality care above all else.”
“Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades recognize St. Joseph Hospital’s
focus on patient safety. This ranking is an important resource for patients,
and a benchmark for hospitals, to compare care at one hospital to others
in a region,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog
Group. “Hospitals that earn an “A” Hospital Safety Grade
deserve to be recognized for their efforts in patient safety.”
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital
Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data
to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The
Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent,
and the results are free to the public.
