Heart Surgery

When you’re a patient at Providence, we treat your heart with the care it deserves. We provide expert surgical treatment for complex heart problems, along with the post-care support you need to fully recover.

Why Choose Us for Your Heart Surgery?

As our patient, you know you’re getting access to leading-edge innovations and treatments that lead to world-class outcomes. Here are three reasons more than 5,000 patients choose us for their heart surgery each year:

Providence is proud to be deeply involved in the continual advancement of cardiovascular treatment and therapies. Our Spokane doctors were the first to pioneer emergency surgery to repair heart arteries for a patient having a heart attack. This has helped make heart attack treatment around the world less invasive.

We know that putting patients first leads to the best outcomes, so we don’t just care for your heart – we care for all it beats for. As part of our commitment to patient-centered care, we follow a set of guidelines known as the Heart Team approach, which brings together cardiac specialists to discuss surgical cases. With this multidisciplinary committee, you know you’re getting the best treatment without having to visit another doctor or specialist yourself.

Our board-certified cardiac surgeons are experts in surgically treating your heart disease. They work closely with a care team that may include interventional cardiologists, physicians, electrophysiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, heart failure specialists and imaging specialists. Nurse navigators are also available to help you understand the underlying causes of heart disease. Our dietitians can help you make heart-healthy food choices, and our exercise physiologists are here to help you keep living life to its fullest.

About Heart Surgery

Patients have heart surgery to fix problems when other treatments, like medications, don’t work effectively. Heart surgery can greatly improve the heart’s function and help people live healthier lives.

During heart surgery, a surgeon makes an incision in the patient’s chest to carefully repair or replace damaged parts of the heart, such as blocked blood vessels or diseased valves. Patients typically remain at the hospital briefly after surgery for monitoring as they recover. Recovery can vary depending on the patient and the procedure’s complexity, but technological advances are making surgery less invasive, improving outcomes and reducing recovery times.

Benefits

Heart surgery is oftentimes the most effective approach for our patients who have severe or complex heart conditions. Depending on the type of surgery, our cardiovascular surgeons are often able to improve or restore proper heart function. As a result, many of our patients are able to increase their physical activity, which can improve quality of life and potentially lead to a longer life.
