Delaying Baby's First Bath
At St. Joseph Hospital, we are committed to ensuring that your baby has
the best possible start in life. This is why we delay baby’s first
bath until 12 hours after birth. Research shows that waiting until baby
is 12 hours old has many health benefits, including:
- Stabilizing body temperature.
- Maintaining blood sugar.
- Allowing time for the white waxy substance on their body (called Vernix)
to be absorbed, which helps moisturize their skin and fight off bacteria.
- Increasing baby’s chance of successfully breastfeeding, which allows
time for family bonding.
We believe that a baby’s birth is an event to be cherished for a
lifetime. This is why we pledge to provide your baby a healthy start to
life in a safe and nurturing environment.
