Laser Prostatectomy

Laser vaporization of the prostate immediately vaporizes and precisely removes enlarged prostate tissue. During the procedure your doctor inserts a cystoscope into the urethra and then passes the laser fiber through the cystoscope. Several bursts of laser energy destroy the prostate tissue and cause shrinkage of the prostate gland. Certain lasers (e.g., thulium) may be utilized to enucleate prostate tissue as well.
