Positron Emission Tomography(PET)/CT Scan
A PET/CT scan is an advanced imaging test that is used in some women with
confirmed breast cancer to evaluate for spread of disease beyond the breast.
During the study, you will be injected with a radiotracer that will preferentially
accumulate in cancer cells throughout the body and will be detected on
the PET scan. A CT scan is performed at the same time so that the images
can be fused with the PET images. This helps the radiologist to determine
the specific anatomic location of the activity on the PET scan.
